NEW FEE INFORMATION
Forsyth County Parks & Recreation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Forsyth County by providing passive and active recreational, educational and cultural programming services and to provide parks and recreational facilities that are safe, accessible and aesthetically pleasing to the entire community.
In order to continue fulfilling this mission, parks and recreation user fees are periodically assessed and adjusted to maximize cost recovery for operations. User fees ensure that those who actually use the services pay for them, rather than relying on non-users to subsidize the use of the services through general appropriation funding. In this way, the majority of the financial burden is assumed by those who use the recreation centers.
In 2020, the Parks & Recreation Department made recommendations to adjust the recreation center membership fees to the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board and the Forsyth Board of Commissioners. The recommendations were approved and included increases as well as decreases to the membership options.
The biggest increase was to the basic membership. The basic membership was previously $10.00 annually for access to open gym activities and the walking track. Now the cost to do those same activities plus use the cardio-weight equipment has increased to $100.00 annually (now called the FitRec membership). The new FitRec fee equates to $8.33 a month which can be paid in full or monthly.
The pricing decreased for the FitClass and FitPlus memberships and a new walking membership was also introduced.
